The dangers of SUVs: Design flaws increase risk of rollover accidents
If I asked you what one of the most unsafe and dangerous vehicles on the road was, what would you say? Chances are that you would not think it is a 15 Passenger Van. These vans are dangerous because they have a high center of gravity and as a result, carry a high rollover risk. This danger increases with the addition of people and equipment. Many groups such as schools, sports teams, churches, shuttle services, and hotels use these vans specifically to transport people and baggage or equipment. These vehicles are typically safe under normal conditions but can "fish tail" and roll during emergency maneuvers or bad weather. The accidents these vans are involved in are typically single car accidents. The structural integrity of these vans is also poor and the roof structures tend to cave in upon roll over. As a result, in the event of a 15 Passenger Van rollover, the injuries tend to be traumatic and catastrophic.
At Thomas M. Kiley and Associates we have handled a variety of defective vehicle cases against Ford, GMC, Chrysler, and other large automobile manufacturers. Please see our Defective Products and Product Liability page for more information on product liability suits, settlements, and verdicts.
