November 30, 2009 - Last week's crib recall by the
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is the largest in U.S. history, affecting 2.1 million drop-side cribs. This crib recall specifically refers to Strok Craft cribs with the plastic drop-side hardware that were sold in the U.S. and Canada between 1993 and 2009. Parents and caregivers are advised to stop using the cribs entirely until they receive and install the free repait kit from the manufacturer that converts the drop-side cribs into fixed side cribs.
To help ensure that anyone who may currently be using one of these recalled cribs is made aware of the danger they possess to infants, below is a list of all of the recalled crib models:
- Stork Craft drop-side cribs (including those with the Fisher-Price logo)
- Stork Craft cribs that were manufactured and distributed between January 1993 and October 2009
- Stork Craft cribs with the Fisher-Price logo that were manufactured between October 1997 and December 2004
- Any cribs with plastic trigger and one-hand-system drop-side hardware
The recall does not affect cribs with metal rod drop-side hardware, just those with the plastic version.
Many of these recalled cribs were purchased through major retailers including:
- BJ's Wholesale Club
- J.C. Penny
- Kmart
- Meijer
- Sears
- USA Baby
- Walmart
and online at:
- Amazon.com
