3 Seriously Injured in Andover Truck Accident

March 4, 2010 – Andover, Mass. – Three people were injured when a compact car collided with a tractor trailer at about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Andover, Mass.

reports that the Geo Prizm involved in the truck accident was completely crushed after colliding with a semi-truck on Interstate 495. The 17-year-old driver of the Prizm and his 47-year-old passenger were transported to Lawrence General Hospital for the treatment of serious personal injuries.

Authorities said the semi-truck driver was med-flighted to Beth Israel Deaconess. All 3 victims suffered serious injuries in the I-495 crash.

Police have not yet determined a cause for the truck accident, but witnesses say the tractor trailer rolled over onto the car after the crash. The cab of the truck then caught fire, with the driver pinned inside. Crews had to clean up diesel fuel on the side of the road after the collision.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims involved in Tuesday’s crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.
