Shrewsbury Man Charged with Wife's Murder

February 5, 2010 - Shrewsbury - A local man has been accused of killing his wife in their Shrewsbury home on Thursday afternoon following an altercation.

According to The MetroWest Daily News, 44-year-old Keith Rosiello called police Thursday at about 1 p.m. after he and his wife reportedly had an argument in their Deerfield Road home. The victim was 44-year-old Maureen Rosiello, who was pronounced dead at the scene after authorities arrived.

According to her husband, she was not breathing when he made the call to the police. After listening to several questions from the dispatcher, Rosiello stated that he wanted to contact his lawyer, according to My Fox Boston.

Rosiello was arrested at his house, and is being charged with murder. It is not clear how his wife was murdered, but authorities on the Massachusetts murder scene say that obvious signs of trauma were present. The Rosiellos have two children, a 12-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son. They are currently staying with relatives, though police did file with the state's Department of Children and Families.

Neighbors and police alike agree that they had never witnessed any prior arguments at the couple's home, nor did they have a record of domestic violence with police.

Rosiello will likely be arraigned on Friday in Westborough District Court due to the murder charge.

Wrongful Death Lawsuit in Police Shooting Settled

August 5, 2009 - Fitchburg - The family of Preston Johnson, the man who was fatally shot by state trooper Donald Gray in 2005, has reached a settlement after filing a federal wrongful death lawsuit against both the trooper and his department.

A lawyer representing the Johnson family told reporters that the wrongful death lawsuit was settled before the trial, which was scheduled to begin on Monday, according to reports.

Johnson was shot in the back of the head by Gray during a police pursuit. The officer told police he had opened fire on Johnson because Johnson's vehicle was moving and he felt threatened at the time.

Donald Gray's attorney told reporters that Gray had been cleared of criminal wrongdoing, but decided to settle with the family "because it was the fastest way to resolve the case."

Domino's Sued for Wrongful Death After Driver Killed

June 19, 2009 - Springfield - Domino's pizza is facing a $15 million wrongful death lawsuit filed by the parents of Corey Lind, the murdered Domino's delivery driver who was fatally stabbed in December 2007.

Coast Guard too slow to respond to boat accident

An internal investigation by the U.S. Coast Guard determined that their response to a boating accident in Massachusetts was too slow.

Matteo Russo
and his father-in-law, John Orlando, were killed while out to sea fishing off the trawler, Patriot, about 15 miles southeast of Gloucester. Russo's wife was alerted to trouble aboard the boat when a company monitoring a fire alarm called her in the early morning hours of January 3. Russo's wife contacted the Coast Guard, but search and rescue boats were not launched for more than two hours.

The boat sunk
but the two men's bodies were located on the day of the accident.

Vice Admiral Robert J. Papp Jr.
, said that the investigation "showed that we were too slow to launch search and rescue assets because of poor collection and analysis of information, and decision making regarding the Patriot's status."

What is a Massachusetts Wrongful Death Claim?

Every day, people are injured and killed in Massachusetts.  This unfortunate fact is apparent as you open up the daily newspaper and read headlines of car crashes, assaults and numerous types of accidents.  When someone dies because of another person’s negligent acts, the surviving family members may be able to file a Massachusetts wrongful death claim against that individual.  A Massachusetts wrongful death lawsuit allows the family to seek retribution in the death of their loved one.

If an individual dies, who had been contributing to the household income, such as a spouse, it can leave the family in serious financial trouble.  A wrongful death lawsuit in Massachusetts can entitle the family to compensation, which can ease the financial burden that may have been created due to the loved one’s death.  A successful case can even provide punitive damages, an amount that is in excess of the other damages awarded to the family.

A wrongful death case is filed in civil court and is different than a criminal proceeding.  Sometimes a wrongful death claim is made in addition to a criminal prosecution, such as in the case of O.J. Simpson who was acquitted in the deaths of Nicole Simpson and Ron Goldman, but later lost a wrongful death lawsuit in connection with their deaths.

You should contact a Boston wrongful death attorney if you have lost a loved one due to negligence.  Call Kiley Law Group, LLP today at 800-410-2769.
