A car accident resulting from teenage drinking brought police to a single-family home in Bradford who stumbled upon an underage drinking party and arrested 15 teenagers Wednesday night.
According to the police, they found the party after responding to a car accident in which one of the drivers had fled the scene. The damaged car was tracked and found parked near the house with the underage party.
Some of the guests at the party were in the yard and ran into the woods when they saw the police. Fifteen were arrested for underage consumption of alcohol.
The arrested teens range in age from 16 to 19, and come from Haverhill, Methuen, Lawrence and Merrimac.
The drivers of the two cars that were involved in the accident were two 19-year-old men, Michael Quevillon and Zachary Hansen – the driver who fled the crash scene - who apparently knew each other.
Hanson was charged with operating under the influence of liquor (OUI), leaving the scene of an accident, being a minor in possession of alcohol, and carrying a dangerous weapon, brass knuckles.
These recent teenage arrests and the car accident that followed further emphasize the issue with underage drinking in the US. Drinking leads to impaired driver performance and judgement, and increases the likelihood of causing a car accident.
Luckily no on was hurt in this case, but the car crash could likely have been avoided if it wasn’t for the alcohol presence. Hopefully, this will serve as a lesson to other teenagers.
