Correction officer killed in pedestrian accident with mail truck

A 45-year-old correction officer from Weymouth was struck and killed on Saturday while running near his home. James Zupkofska was jogging on Summer Street in Weymouth around 6:30 p.m. when a U.S. Postal Service truck  “veered out of control and wound up on its side, ” according to an article in the Boston Herald.

The accident is currently under investigation. Charges have not been filed yet, according to the Norfolk District Attorney.

Zupkofska was a correction officer at the Norfolk County Correctional Center in Dedham, Massachusetts. He is remembered fondly by friends and coworkers for his volunteerism and dedication to duty.
