Double Car Crash in Harwich Injures One

January 20, 2010 - Harwich - Two cars crashed within minutes of each other at the same spot on Route 28 near Julien Road in South Harwich last night around 7:20 p.m., injuring one of the drivers.

According to reports in Cape Cod Online, 61-yearold Linda Harless was driving east when she crashed into a telephone pole while trying to pick up a CD that had fallen in her car. As a result, that telephone pole along with a second pole snapped in half, causing live wires to fall on Route 28.

A few minutes after that initial car accident, a Ford Explorer driven by 39-year-old Paul McClusky also struck one of the downed telephone poles, at least partially due to the fact that the traffic lights had gone out after the first car accident. Both vehicles are believed to be totaled by local police.

Harless refused further medical treatment after being examined at the scene of the car accident but McClusky was transported to Cape Cod Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Harless was also cited for failure to stay within marked lanes.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.
