February 8, 2010 – Falmouth, Mass. - A Good Samaritan was injured Thursday night after attempting to help a drunk driver involved in a single car accident on Sandwich Road in Falmouth, Mass.
According to Cape Cod Times, Michael Jester, 25, of Falmouth, was driving his 1997 Mitsubishi when he struck a cluster of mailboxes at about 12:30 a.m. His vehicle then struck a telephone pole, which knocked down the wires. Jester’s Mitsubishi then rolled over and subsequently caught on fire.
Jessica Way, 28, of East Falmouth, Mass., was driving by the rollover accident and stopped to assist Jester. As Way approached Jester’s vehicle, another car drove over the downed cables, causing them to strike Way and knock her to the ground, where she hit her head. Way was transported to a local hospital for the treatment of personal injuries.
Authorities said they smelled alcohol in Jester’s vehicle and during later questioning at the hospital, Jester attempted to assault one of the officers. He was arrested and charged with:
negligently operating a motor vehicle;
- speeding;
- disorderly conduct;
- assault and battery on a police officer;
- marked lanes violation;
- operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol for the second time.
Jester was later released on $500 bail.
