Tim Oliveira, 53, of Salisbury died this past Sunday at a Boston hospital after suffering fatal injuries in a tragic accident while working at the Salisbury Fire Department on Lafayette Street last Friday.
According to The Eagle Tribune, Lieutenant Oliveira was doing an oil change on one of the department’s vehicles when the jack holding the vehicle failed, causing the vehicle to fall on top of Oliveira. Firefighters at the station and from neighboring towns worked to free him from under the vehicle.
Once Oliveira was freed from beneath the vehicle, he was rushed to a local hospital in critical condition and later flown by helicopter to a Boston area hospital for further emergency treatment. Oliveira was pronounced dead on Sunday afternoon.
Oliveira managed the vehicle maintenance for the department and had worked as a firefighter in the town for 27 years.
