Former Marine Dies After Being Punched Over Barking Dog

July 13, 2009 – Abington, MA -  A former Marine from Abington, 48-year-old Brian Cherry, passed away yesterday at Massachusetts General Hosptial from severe brain trauma after being punched in front of a coffee shop on July 6th.

According to reports, Cherry confronted 49-year-old Michael McGunigle outside of a coffee shop, allegedly asking McGunigle to better restrain his dog, which was in a car but barking at passers-by. McGunigle then punched Cherry in the head, sending the man crashing to the pavement where he hit his head again.

McGunigle was charged with aggravated assault last week and released on $3,000 bail. Authorities are waiting on Cherry’s autopsy report in order to decide if the charges against McGunigle will be ammended.
