HP Recalls Laptop Batteries

Hewlett-Packard (HP) is issuing a world-wide recall 54,000 of lithium ion (Li-Ion) laptop batteries installed in its laptops. Currently 25 of its laptop models are powered by these batteries.

The recall was issued after fears that the batteries could explode due to overheating, which may cause injury to the user and destroy the machine.

According to the CPSC, there have been 38 consumer complaints, including 31 cases of property damage related to these batteries. The CPSC urged consumers to stop using the batteries and return them to HP for refund.

This recall is exactly one year after the May 2009 battery recall that followed after reports of two battery explosions.
