Hundreds of additional police on the road during seatbelt campaign

Hundreds of additional state police will be on the road over the few days as law enforcement agencies across Massachusetts step up their “Click It or Ticket” campaign.
The campaign is aimed at enforcing seat belt laws that require drivers to wear a properly secured seat belt while driving or riding in a vehicle. Failure to do so may result in a $25 fine for drivers and passengers.

The Sun Chronicle reports that approximately 470 additional state police have been scheduled to work on the campaign which ends July 30. Massachusetts has the lowest seat belt compliance in the country.

When designed correctly and worn properly, seat belts can drastically reduce injuries and fatalities.
However, seat belts have been recalled and the subject of lawsuits when they are defectively designed.
