Jeep Driver Involved in Fatal Crash Was in a Previous Accident in 2009

An accident that occurred on June 26 in Boston ended fatally for the 43-year-old Jose Puzul-Peres, whose minivan got struck head-on by a 21-year-old driver, Evan Hoffman, who was previously involved in another car accident in New York less than a year ago.

Hoffman’s records from the Registry of Motor Vehicles show that he was under a one-year license suspension due to the New York accident. However, he was able to get his license back on June 24th – only two days before he crashed his vehicle (a Jeep) into a minivan. Additionally, the June 26th crash happened only a few hours after Hoffman was arrested in Boston on charge of vandalizing cars.

On the day of the fatal crash, Hoffman was driving his Jeep Cherokee westbound on Beacon Street, when according to the police, he crossed into the eastbound lane, hitting Puzul-Peres’ minivan head-on. Hoffman was released to his parents’ custody and was not charged, even though Puzul-Peres died in the crash.

Short Chronology of Events:

The two men flee before the police, however they catch Hoffman, and three witnesses say he smashed the vehicles’ windows with a belt. Hoffman gets arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and three counts of malicious destruction of property. However, he gets bailed out for $40 by a bail bondsman bailed him out at about 5 a.m.

- One hour after his release, Hoffman crashes his Jeep with a suspended registration into a minivan killing Puzul-Peres.
