Man Drowns in Charles River

Two men jumped off the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge between Cambridge and Boston on Tuesday night, one right after the other, NECN reports. Only one survived.

According to the State police, the first rescuers on the scene worked fast to help the men out of the water. One trooper threw a spare tire to one of the men in Charles River, which he then used it as a floatation device. He was pulled out of the water by a Boston firefighter in a survival suit who reached him and brought him to a state police boat to transport him to shore

The yet unnamed man was then taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

In the meantime rescuers tried to find the other man in Charles River, but couldn’t in the in the rainy and windy weather. In the end, dive teams helped in the search, and located him underwater further down the river. He had drowned by that time.

The reasons behind the jump, as well as the identities of the two jumpers, are still not revealed.
