Man Injured After Driving SUV into Utility Pole in Taunton Crash

February 4, 2010 - Taunton, Mass. - A 67-year-old man was injured Sunday morning when his SUV struck a utility pole in a Taunton, Mass. single-vehicle crash.

According to The Taunton Gazette, Roger LeClerk drove his Ford Escape SUV into a utility pole south of the Home Plate Bay Street Grill at about 11:15 a.m. LeClerk was rushed to Morton Hospital and Medical Center for the treatment of accident-related personal injuries.

Police believe that a medical condition set off the Taunton SUV crash. Authorities said LeClerk temporarily lost consciousness, causing him to veer into oncoming traffic and strike the utility pole. Emergency crews had to assist the injured driver from his SUV after the vehicle accident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.
