March 19, 2010 – Manchester, Mass. – A local man died in a single-car accident early Thursday morning in Manchester, Mass.
The Salem News reports that a 24-year-old man was driving his 2004 Audi on northbound Route 128 when he appears to have lost control of his vehicle. The Audi struck a guardrail and then flew over it, striking trees on the median. The car came to a rest north of Exit 17. The man was ejected from his car, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the Route 128 accident. Authorities do not know what caused the crash, but they do believe that speed may have been a factor.
The victim’s name has not yet been released as the Massachusetts State Police still need to contact his family regarding the death, and his parents are currently not in the country.
Northbound Route 128 was closed for hours after the car crash as authorities cleared the scene and investigated the accident.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.
