An unidentified woman was struck and killed by an MBTA commuter rail train in Hyde Park this past Friday evening just before 5:30pm.
The Franklin line train was travelling at about 70 mph and was carrying roughly 1,200 commuters that evening when the woman was struck.
The Boston Globe reported that the unnamed woman was walking across the train tracks when she was struck but it is unknown why she was on the tracks, which are in a restricted area that has a fence around the perimeter.
Authorities reported that they are unsure if headphones or other factors played a role in the tragedy and are continuing to investigate the deadly accident.
Passengers were informed of the MBTA accident about 10 minutes after the woman was hit and continued to wait for another hour while the scene was processed.
The train then began its route again towards Readville Station. There were delays out of the Back Bay, Ruggles, and Hyde Park stations because of the fatal accident.
