Anthony Fasulo, 48, of Milford was killed in a motorcycle crash Sunday morning around 5:30am on the eastbound side of I-290 near Exit 23A in Shrewsbury, after he had collided with a sign on the side of the highway. The Daily Shrewsbury reports that Fasulo lost control of his motorcycle right before he struck the sign on the median.
First responders had reportedly found Fasulo dead at the crash site. Massachusetts State Troopers are continuing the investigation into the exact cause of the fatal crash. As of now, officials have determined that alcohol and speed do not appear to have played a role in the tragic accident.
Motorcycle Accidents: Statistics and Causes
Two of the most common causes of a motorcycle accident have been linked to speeding and a general lack of experience on a motorcycle. Crashes where a stationary or a fixed object is involved are estimated to result in a fatality more often than not.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported that in 2009 there were about 4,600 deadly motorcycle accidents across the U.S. About 10% of these motorcycle accidents involved another car or truck. There were 54 deadly motorcycle crashes that occurred in Massachusetts in 2009, according to the NHTSA.
