Mother Charged in Baby’s Bathtub Drowning

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office's has charged Christal Giachetti, 30, with aggravated manslaughter in the death of her baby, 4-month-old Trenton Giachetti.

Trenton drowned in the family bathtub.

Giachetti is accused of causing her baby's death through "culpable negligence" by not providing proper supervision while Trenton was in the bathtub.

Family members paint a picture of a mother struggling with parenting and drug abuse. She gave several stories to police, who found evidence of drug use, including a hypodermic needle and spoons with a white crystal substance on them.

Christal Giachetti was picked up in New York on May 8, 2009, where she was held on a $150,000 bond.
