NH Man Dies at Deerfield Rail Yard Accident

A New Hampshire man working at a Deerfield rail yard died from a severe leg injury from an accident last Tuesday.

Authorities say that Kurt Ward, 35 of North Conway, NH, who worked for Pan Am Railways, was trying to uncouple a pair of freight cars in a River Road railroad yard when the accident occurred. He got caught under a railroad car as he and others attempted to uncouple it from a second car.

Ward suffered a severe leg injury, and was taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

The Boston Herald reported that an autopsy is scheduled to determine a cause of death.

Until further notice, the case remains under investigation by the Deerfield police, the district attorney’s office and the Federal Railway Administration.

We offer our sincerest condolences to the family of Kurt Ward in this sad hour, and to all those who knew and loved him.
