One Dead, One Injured After Truck Crashes into New Hampshire River

January 29, 2010 - Winchester. N.H. - One person died and another was rescued after the truck they were riding in plunged into New Hampshire's Ashuelot River on Thursday.

According to Boston.com, rescuers found one person still alive after the car accident, whom they were able to rescue. They also found another person in the truck, who unfortunately had already passed away. Dive teams were sent into the river soon after the crash.

While no one yet knows exactly what occurred, it is believed that the driver of the truck lost control of the vehicle after hitting snow on Route 10. It then appeared to have left the road, hit a fence and a shed, and then sank into the river.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.

Our heart goes out to the family and friends of the deceased for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. We offer our deepest condolences to their family. We wish the other victim the very best for a quick and complete recovery. Please keep this victim and the deceased's family in your prayers.

Contacting a Personal Injury Lawyer

It would be in the deceased's family's best interest to contact an experienced Winchester or Massachusetts personal injury lawyer, who can analyze all elements of this tragic accident and ensure they get the justice and compensation they rightfully deserve. In any fatal car accident case involving a negligent driver, families of deceased victims may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation for medical/funeral expenses and other damages.

A qualified car accident lawyer should also look into whether there was a dangerous condition on the roadway. If such a condition caused or contributed to this fatal car accident, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining that particular roadway could be held liable. Massachusetts has a statute of limitations which may prevent you from filing a claim against a governmental agency if too much time has passed.
