Our eighteen-year-old client was driving on an interstate into
the early morning sun. As he drove over a rise in the road,
he struck a car that was disabled and stopped in the middle
of the road because a 150-pound wheel and tire detached from
a tractor-trailer rig traveling in the opposite direction.
The lugs holding the tire had broken off, causing the tire
and wheel to travel across the median strip, and hit and
disable the stopped vehicle.
Awarded: $ 3.5 million

The Boston Globe reported today on the death of a 24-year-old hiker who slipped off rocks near a waterfall on Mount Washington and fell at least 100 feet to his death. According to authorities from the Fish and Game Department, the victim, Christopher Baillie, 24, of Forked River, New Jersey, was hiking as a part of a group of four other people along Tuckerman's Ravine.
The fatal accident occurred about 5 p.m. yesterday (Sunday, July 18) when Baillie went off the trail to the top of a waterfall. In a treacherous moment, he slipped on the rocks and was washed over, falling more than 100 feet.
By the time rescuers reached him, Baillie was beyond help. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
We are saddened by this tragic loss of young life, and we offer our sincerest condolences to the family of Christopher Baillie and all those who knew and loved him.
The other New Hampshire accident occurred on Friday at the Pine Knoll Campground in Albany. A woman, Charlotte Reynolds, 64, was severely burned in an explosion and remains in a critical condition, news reports said.
The accident happened around 10 pm on Friday. According to the authorities, the woman was alone in a camper trailer when it suddenly exploded and caught on fire, causing her severe burns. Fire and rescue crews from Conway pulled the woman from the burning trailer in time.
She was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment. We hope Charlotte Reynolds will have a speedy and full recovery from her injuries.
In light of these recent events, we urge all outdoor enthusiasts to exercise extreme caution while around flamable materials.
In addition, campers and hikers should be aware that even an innocent activity such as hiking can pose a grave danger to children and adults. A false step in a crucial moment can lead to a fatal fall.
While some accidents cannot be prevented, staying alert increases your chances to having an injury-free outdoor trip.
