PA Woman Sues Dunkin’ Donuts for Sugary Coffee

Danielle Jordan of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has filed suit against Dunkin’ Donuts, claiming that in June of 2009 an employee added sugar to her coffee instead of artificial sweetener, which then resulted in Jordan going into diabetic shock.

Dunkin’ Donuts, based in Canton, Massachusetts has not commented on the pending case.

According to The Boston Globe, Jordan reportedly drank the sugary coffee and felt dizzy, light-headed and went to the hospital for treatment.

Attorney Kenneth Rodgers is representing Jordan and has stated that Jordan was unable to discern that there was pure sugar in the coffee as opposed to the artificial sweetener that she had ordered.

The amount of damages that Jordan is seeking was not publicly available.

This lawsuit coincides with the release of the new documentary Hot Coffee, which examines the infamous lawsuit of Stella Liebeck vs. McDonald’s.

In February of 1992, Liebeck, of Albuquerque, New Mexico had spilled McDonald’s coffee on herself and pursued damages after suffering burns from the hot beverage. The documentary focuses on why this particular case became so popular and who truly profited from the coffee spill in the end.
