Pedestrian Struck, Seriously Injured in Tewksbury Hit-and-Run Accident

The Lowell Sun reports today that a young woman in her 20s sustained serious injuries last night after she was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Tewksbury.

What Happened

The unidentified woman was walking in the area of 550 Whipple Road when she was hit by a vehicle just after 10:30 p.m. last night. The driver then reportedly fled the scene towards Lowell. When police and emergency workers responded to the accident scene, the woman had a weak pulse and was rushed to an area hospital for medical treatment. She has since been released and there was no update available on the nature of her injuries.

Authorities are continuing to investigate this serious hit-and-run accident and are asking anyone who may have information on the driver to contact Tewksbury police.

Elderly Driver Faces Charges after Striking Family in Concord

The Boston Globe reported over the weekend that Carol Daniele, 76, of Westford is now facing charges of failing to yield to pedestrians and operating to endanger after Daniele struck a mother and her two young sons in Concord last week.

Daniele had been driving her Toyota Camry to her dialysis appointment last Sunday when she attempted to turn at the intersection of Winthrop Street and Commonwealth Avenue and struck an unidentified Concord woman and the woman’s sons, aged five and 20-months-old, as the family was crossing the roadway. There are no crosswalks present at this Concord intersection.

Authorities responding to the accident scene found the mother in the roadway holding the 20-month-old son who had been in a stroller at the time of the accident. The five-year-old boy may have been pushing or riding his bicycle with training wheels when the family was struck.

According to officials, the woman and her sons are out of the hospital and at home as they recover from their injuries. Daniele’s arraignment date has not been announced at this time.

20-Month-Old Injured After Elderly Driver Strikes Family in Concord

A Toyota Camry driven by an elderly Westford woman struck an unidentified Concord woman and her two children Saturday morning at about 9:00 a.m. as the family was crossing Commonwealth Avenue in Concord.

What Happened

According to The Boston Globe, the woman and her two sons, a 20-month-old and a 5-year-old, were crossing the roadway at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Winthrop Street. The unnamed elderly driver was making a turn onto Winthrop Street when she struck the family. The driver then accelerated onto a nearby lawn and crashed into a garage, forcing the garage off the foundation.

Police responded to the scene and found the mother in the street holding the 20-month-old son, who had been sitting in his stroller at the time of the accident. The 5-year-old boy may have been riding his bicycle with training wheels when the impact occurred and he was reportedly responsive when police arrived.

The 20-month-old boy was seriously injured by the impact and was flown by helicopter to a Boston hospital for emergency treatment. Both the mother and her 5-year-old son were taken to a local hospital for treatment and were then released. The elderly woman suffered injuries as well and was still in the hospital as of Saturday evening. Authorities reported that the woman had been driving to her dialysis appointment.

Teenager Hit by 2 Cars in Ayer Dies from Injuries

Corey Buxton, 15, of Shirley was hit by two cars Wednesday night just after 7:00 p.m. on West Main Street in Ayer. Buxton died from his serious injuries.

What Happened

The Lowell Sun reported that Buxton was walking with a friend last night along the downtown street when he attempted to run across the roadway. Buxton was then hit by a westbound vehicle and landed in the eastbound lane, where he was struck by a second vehicle heading east. The accident occurred in front of Parthenon Pizza, where an employee called police to report what had happened.

Emergency responders rushed the teen to an area hospital. Buxton succumbed to his critical injuries some time later. The Boston Globe reported that authorities shut down a portion of West Main Street in between Union Street and Mechanic Street Extension for roughly six hours in order to investigate and reconstruct the scene. No charges have been brought against either driver who hit Buxton. According to officials, there may have been other individuals involved in this tragic pedestrian accident as well.

Pedestrian Crossing Street Hit by Truck in Danvers

The Salem News is reporting today that an employee of Millipore in Danvers was struck by a newspaper delivery driver early yesterday morning and sustained serious injuries.

What Happened

The unidentified employee was reportedly on his break around 4:00 a.m. and was walking across Cherry Hill Drive in the office park where Millipore is located when he was hit by a GMC Sierra truck making newspaper deliveries of The Boston Globe. The driver of the truck was identified by officials as Brent Podmostka, 45, of Danvers.

The pedestrian was seriously injured by the impact and transported to an area hospital before being transferred to a Boston hospital for additional medical attention. According to authorities, the pedestrian’s injuries do not seem life-threatening. Police are continuing their investigation into the serious accident.

Driver Hits, Seriously Injures Woman and Children in Hull

The Boston Globe reports that a 31-year-old woman and two children sustained serious injuries after they were struck by a Ford pickup truck while crossing Nantasket Avenue in Hull early Tuesday evening just before 6:00 p.m.

What Happened

The woman and two children, ages 9 and 11, were crossing the roadway when an unidentified 61-year-old man from Hull hit the pedestrians with his truck. The 11-year-old girl and the woman were rushed to an area hospital, while the 9-year-old boy was flown by helicopter to a Boston hospital for further medical treatment. It is unclear at this time if the three are related. Officials are continuing to investigate the serious accident. The driver has not been charged.

Somerville Woman Crossing Street Hit by Dump Truck

An unidentified Somerville woman was struck by a Department of Public Works dump truck this morning just after 8:00 a.m. The Boston Globe reports that the woman is in her 50s and that she sustained injuries considered to be life-threatening.

The woman was reportedly crossing Washington Street in Somerville in the area of Webster Avenue when the dump truck struck her. Emergency workers transported the woman and the driver to area hospitals for medical treatment. Both Somerville and Massachusetts State Police are investigating the serious accident.

Elderly Woman Struck, Killed by Car in Cambridge

The Boston Globe reported this morning that an unidentified 74-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle as she was crossing Mount Auburn Street in Cambridge last night at about 8:30 p.m.  According to authorities, the unnamed driver immediately stopped after the fatal pedestrian accident and has cooperated with police. The elderly woman was transported to an area hospital, where she succumbed to her critical injuries.  Officials are continuing their investigation into the deadly accident.

Merrimack College Student, 18, Struck and Killed While Walking on Route 114

Jize Ma, 18, an exchange student at Merrimack College from Dalian, Liaoning Province, China was killed Sunday night after he was struck by a vehicle while walking with a friend on Route 114 in North Andover. The Eagle Tribune has reported that Ma and his friend were walking along 114 East near Stop & Shop and the Jasmine Plaza when Ma was hit by an unidentified driver from Andover. Ma was rushed to an area hospital before he was flown to a Boston hospital for further treatment. He was pronounced dead some time later.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the fatal pedestrian accident and are reportedly not citing alcohol or speed as contributing factors. Officials have stated that Ma was in dark clothes and the roadways were still wet at the time of the accident.

Pedestrian Struck, Killed on Wareham Highway

An unidentified 58-year-old man was struck and killed last night by a Jeep operated by Plymouth resident Sean Cunniff, 41, as the unnamed pedestrian attempted to cross Cranberry Highway in East Wareham.

According to South Coast Today, the fatal pedestrian accident took place just before 8:00 p.m. The pedestrian was crossing the busy roadway near Cape Cod Gas to get to the trailer park across the highway when he was hit by Cunniff’s Jeep. Conditions on the road may have been slick due to yesterday’s rain.

Once officials responded to the scene, the man was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. One of the lanes of Cranberry Highway was closed in order to allow authorities to investigate and reconstruct the accident site. Police have reportedly not cited Cunniff for the accident.

This deadly pedestrian and motor vehicle accident is the second in just a few months. Earlier this summer, Charles Raymond, 53, of Wareham was hit and killed on the evening of July 19 as he was crossing Cranberry Highway as well.
