Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Sunderland Crosswalk

A woman was struck as she was crossing the street Friday night in Sunderland, Mass. The pedestrian accident resulted in serious injuries, including facial and spinal injuries.

reports that Casey Patterson, 23, was walking in the crosswalk by Squire Village Plaza when she was struck by a car driven by Philip Rocash, 68, of Sunderland.

Casey Patterson was transported to Baystate Medical Center after the pedestrian accident for the treatment of serious personal injuries. Reports indicate that she is currently listed in good condition. Patterson’s accident injuries include a broken wrist, a fractured vertebrae, and cuts to her face.

The pedestrian accident remains under investigation. Authorities said that several other pedestrians have been injured-or even killed-in the same crosswalk over the last few years.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.
