Police Officer Suffers Minor Injuries After West Yarmouth Car Crash

February 26, 2010 – West Yarmouth, Mass. – A West Yarmouth police officer suffered minor personal injuries after he crashed into a telephone pole during heavy rain on Thursday night. 

According to Cape Cod Times, the single-car accident occurred at about 6:50 p.m. when the officer struck the pole with his police cruiser on West Yarmouth Road. The weather-related crash caused extensive damage to the front of the vehicle. The officer was transported to Cape Cod Hospital for the treatment of minor personal injuries. 

The officer’s identity has not yet been released. The single-car accident is still under investigation, but it is noted that visibility was likely hindered because of the steady rain.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.
