Road Safety Plays Role in 3 Separate Car Accidents on Route 3

March 5, 2010 – Quincy, Mass. - Three separate car accidents on Route 3 on Thursday morning caused personal injuries and major traffic delays.

The Patriot Ledge
reports that several of the victims involved in the various accidents suffered minor personal injuries, though no one suffered life-threatening injuries in the crashes. Authorities suspect that treacherous winter weather, including quickly-accumulating snow, was a primary contributor to the 3 separate Route 3 crashes.

The first car accident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. in Kingston, Mass when a driver reportedly lost control of their vehicle, resulting in a rollover accident south of Route 3A. The driver suffered minor personal injuries when their car rolled onto the highway median.

The second accident occurred on the breakdown lane on the right side of the highway, on the southbound side, near Route 139. Just a short time later, a 3rd crash occurred in the southbound lane. This crash blocked the left lane near Route 14 in Duxbury.

The accidents caused major traffic backups on Route 3 and raised concerns about the safety of the roads.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.
