Second Victim Dies as a Result of Monday’s Pedestrian Accidents in Stoughton

January 28, 2010 – Stoughton - The two unrelated pedestrian accidents that occurred within a half hour of each other Monday night resulted in two deaths, as the woman previously listed in serious condition has passed away.

According to WickedLocal.com, 52-year-old Sandra Campbell was rushed to Good Samaritan Hospital and resuscitated after being struck by a Buick driven by Lisa Walcott, but she later died of her injuries. At the time of the fatal pedestrian accident, Campbell had just left her job for the day at the Stoughton Extended Day Program, and was walking home since her car had broken down, when she was struck near Sumner Street. She leaves behind one 18-year-old daughter.

About a half hour before Campbell was hit, 75-year-old Portugal native Marie DePonte, had just completed her usual routine of praying at the Immaculate Conception Church. She was walking home when Jamil Kirdar’s Mercedes Benz struck her on Canton Street. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the pedestrian crash. DePonte leaves behind three children and two grandchildren.

Both fatal pedestrian accidents will be reconstructed by police, but so far no charges have been brought against the drivers.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Sandra Campbell and Marie DePonte for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Our heart goes out to everybody who knew and loved Campbell and DePonte. Please keep them in your prayers.
