An 82-year-old Methuen driver hit the gas paddle instead of the brake on Monday and took down five sections of vinyl fencing, rammed a tree and a van and landed up against a house, police told the Eagle Tribune.

The accident occurred as the driver, Robert Michel, mistook the pedals as he was backing out of a driveway. His vehicle, a 1997 Ford Explorer SUV sped across the road hitting a house, its vinyl siding, a parked van, and a tree.
According to the authorities, the senior driver was not injured in the accident, only shaken up. He was taken to Lawrence General Hospital to be examined.
The SUV involved in the crash belonged to Michel’s daughter. He was cited for driving without a license.
