June 29, 2009 – Melrose – 86-year-old senior driver Virginia Nelson of Malden struck a senior pedestrian Sunday morning on Main Street in Melrose, Ma.
The victim, 84-year-old Francis Blomerth, is reportedly in critical condition with “severe head and facial trauma” after being struck by the Nelson’s car as he was crossing the street near Mexico Lindo restaurant.
There are conflicting reports about whether Blomerth was in the crosswalk or entering the street between two parked cars at the time of the car accident.
Melrose residents also stated that Main Street has been busier than usual lately due to detoured traffic from another road and that the narrow, two-lane street is often lined with parked cars that can greatly decrase visibility for drivers. As of now, Nelson has not been cited for the car accident.
