Senior Pedestrian Killed in Saugus Hit-and-Run

January 29, 2010 - Saugus - An 80-year-old man died after a hit-and-run accident on Thursday.

According to WickedLocal.com, the man was crossing Central Street at about 5:30 p.m. when he was struck by what witnesses say was a small SUV. The vehicle did not stop. The victim was transported to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital, and later Mass General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Unfortunately, no one has come forward to admit their involvement with this fatal hit-and-run accident. A witness at the scene was able to describe the vehicle as a small-sized SUV, and police expect the car in question to have some damage to the front-end on the right side.

If you have any information about this tragic hit-and-run pedestrian accident, please contact the Saugus Police Department.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Our heart goes out to everybody who knew and loved the victim. Please keep them in your prayers.
