January 19, 2010 – Springfield - A fatal car crash that occurred early this morning is responsible for killing a 21-year-old woman and injuring three others.
According to reports from Masslive.com, the car accident took place around 1:10 a.m. on Parker Street when a 2004 Saturn Ion struck a tree as well as one or more parked vehicles near 850 Parker Street. The female victim was ejected from the car upon impact and was found near the badly damaged vehicle by emergency crews. She was later pronounced dead at Baystate Medical Center.
Injured in the crash were at least two male victims who were also taken to Baystate Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries as well as a woman who was a passenger in the backseat. The jaws of life were used to remove the driver.
Police believe speed may have been a major factor in the fatal car accident, and wreckage from the vehicle was found scattered throughout the area. Police are not yet releasing the names of the car accident victims at this time pending family notification.
