Teen Dies of Injuries Days After Route 78 Crash

February 3, 2010 - Winchester, N.H. -
A teenager who was seriously injured after her vehicle crashed Friday in Winchester, N.H. died on Monday.

According to The Keene Sentinel, Makenzie Goode, 17, of Warwick, Mass. was driving her 2000 Pontiac Grand Am on Route 78 at about 7:30 a.m. Friday when the car veered toward oncoming traffic. When Goode tried to steer back to her own lane, the car began sliding sideways on its driver's side. Along the way, it hit a fire hydrant on the highway's shoulder.

The crashed vehicle was wrapped around the fire hydrant, and rescue crews used the Jaws of Life machinery to remove Goode from the vehicle. She was then rushed to U-Mass Memorial Medical Center, where she died of her injuries days later. Goode was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the Winchester crash.

Police believe the car accident was caused by snow on the road, though the accident is still under investigation.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.

We offer our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Makenzie Goode for their tragic and heartbreaking loss. Our heart goes out to everybody who knew and loved Goode. Please keep them in your prayers.

Contacting a Personal Injury Lawyer

It would be in the Goode family's best interest to contact an experienced Warwick Massachusetts personal injury lawyer, who can analyze all elements of this tragic accident and ensure they get the justice and compensation they rightfully deserve. In any fatal car accident case involving a negligent driver, families of deceased victims may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit seeking compensation for medical/funeral expenses and other damages.

A qualified car accident lawyer should also look into whether there was a dangerous condition on the roadway. If such a condition caused or contributed to this fatal car accident, the city or governmental agency responsible for maintaining that particular roadway could be held liable. Massachusetts has a statute of limitations which may prevent you from filing a claim against a governmental agency if too much time has passed.
