Teen killed in ATV accident in Freedom, NH

A 19-year-old man was killed early yesterday morning in an ATV accident in Freedom, New Hampshire.

Jason Phair, of Conway, was at a party in the area when he lost control of an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) and struck a tree around 1 a.m. Phair was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and witnesses did not call 911 until approximately 2:30 a.m. Emergency personnel responded to the call and took Phair to Conway Memorial Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

According to an article in the Union Leader, the party was attended by many young people under the age of 21 and alcohol may have been served. Indeed a combination of speed and alcohol were cited by a conservation officer as possible factors in the accident.

Partygoers had been taking turns riding the ATV and Phair was riding as a passenger before taking control of the vehicle individually.
