Teen Seriously Injured In Two-Car Collision in Falmouth

February 1, 2010 - Falmouth, Mass. -
Speed is believed to be a factor in an early morning car accident that seriously injured a teen and a young adult Sunday.

According to Cape Cod Times, 21-year-old Edmund Lopes III was driving his Ford Taurus westbound on Brick Kiln Road when his vehicle veered into the eastbound lane at about 1 a.m. His car struck the Saturn sedan of 17-year-old Clorissa Ann Decosta-Hicks, moving her car backwards several feet.

Lopes' own car rolled over, eventually resting on its roof. Both drivers had to be removed from their cars by emergency crews. Decosta-Hicks reportedly suffered injuries to her legs and was transported to Boston's Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. Lopes was also taken to the hospital for the treatment of personal injuries sustained in the Falmouth car crash.

Though police do not know the exact speed Lopes was driving, authorities cited him for the car accident as his high rate of speed is believed to have contributed to the crash.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.

Our heart goes out to all the injured victims in this tragic accident. We hope and pray that they all recover fully from their injuries.

We understand that the Falmouth Police Department's Accident Division is looking into the rollover accident. However, even while the police are investigating Sunday's crash, we suggest that those injured consider consulting a Massachusetts personal injury lawyer.

Well, seeing as how I am the teenager that was involved in that accident, I'll give you the real facts of that accident. I think people deserve to know just how idiotic Lopes was in this whole accident.. The only reason why this whole accident happened was because he was attempting to drift his car sideways to go in an off ramp to go down the wrong side of the highway. That's why his passenger side hit my font end. I sustained two broken legs from this whole deal, and where as I had dreams of getting into law enforcement and becoming a police officer one day.. I can no longer have that dream because I will never be physically "normal" ever again. And before anyone even begins to wonder, no, I will not be coming out of this legal matter with any large sum of money, if any at all. Lopes' limited insurance plus my extensive medical bills are seeing to it that in the end, I get financially screwed over in this case. But don't think me bitter about this, because from what I've heard, Lopes is now in jail. Whether it pertains to the accident or not, I'm unsure. But I just figured people should get the real story of what happened. It's been quite a few months but I'm finally doing better.
