March 8, 2010 – Waltham, Mass. – Three people suffered personal injuries in a multiple-car accident early Saturday morning on Route 128 south.
The Daily News Tribune reports that the highway accident involved 5 vehicles, with one of the drivers suffering serious personal injuries. That driver faces criminal charges related to the accident. Two other drivers were also injured in the crash.
Michael Gallant, 51, of Somerville, Mass. was driving south of Winter Street after midnight when his car struck a guardrail on the left side of the highway. His vehicle spun around at least once, starting a chain reaction that involved 4 other accident vehicles.
Vicki Pardallis, 39, of Medford, Mass.-whose Crown Victoria was struck during the multi-car accident-was transported to Newton-Wellesley Hospital for the treatment of personal injuries. Cecilia Cohen, 52, of Randolph, also was transported to the hospital for the treatment of accident injuries.
Authorities charged Gallant with multiple traffic violations, including: driving on a suspended license for the 2nd time, marked lanes violation, and driving without proper authority. The Route 128 five-car accident shut down 3 lanes of traffic on the highway for nearly 3 hours.
Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.
