On November 5, 2009, The Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a recall of children’s art easels made by MacPherson’s, of Emeryville, California. The easels are double sided. One side is a white board and the other a chalkboard. The high amount of lead is found in the chalkboard side of the easel and violates the federal lead paint standard. The product was sold under the name “Young Artist Easel” and should be taken away from children immediately. The easels were sold at art supply stores nationwide at a cost of approximately $75. No injuries have been reported to the CPSC as of yet. Concerned parents and consumers should go to the website set up by the CDC concerning leasd poisoning in children at http://www.cdc.gov/nceh/lead/.
