Truck Crash Closes Interstate 95 in Newburyport, Massachusetts

ACCIDENT TYPE: MULTIPLE VEHICLE CRASH
A tractor trailer truck transporting gasoline on Interstate 95 in Newburyport, Massachusetts rolled over in a multiple vehicle crash on Monday morning, forcing the closure of Route 95 North and South.
Massachusetts State Police reported that the vehicle accident caused two people to suffer serious personal injuries as well as minor injuries to several others. The cause of the crash remains unknown although it is known that the crash occurred on the northbound side and involved a minivan, an SUV, a compact car, and the tractor trailer truck.
The tractor trailer truck rolled and spilled gasoline onto the roadway and into a storm drain which empties into the nearby Merrimack River. The Coast Guard was called to contain the gas spill in the river.
This section of Route 95 provides access to northern Massachusetts and the seacoast of New Hampshire and Maine. Traffic was backed up in both directions for several hours.
