Two serious motorcycle-car collisions occurred in Massachusetts in the last 7 days, one of them in Mendon, the other in Beverly, leaving two bikers seriously injured because drivers did not see them on the road.
The first motorcycle crash happened on Sunday at the intersection of Hartford Avenue and Cemetery Street in Mendon, Mass.

Mark Karli, 61, of Franklin, who was travelling on his 1996 Kawasaki east on Hartford Avenue, got struck by Nicole Kovalsky, 25, of Providence, RI, driving a 2008 Toyota Scion as she attempted to make a left turn on Cemetery Street. The car crossed into the path of the motorcycle, who crashed into the car’s passenger side, Milford Daily News reported.
Karli was seriously injured in the crash, suffereing head injury and a broken pelvis. He is recovering at UMass Medical Center in Worcester, where it was reported he was in a “fair” condition.
The second motorcycle crash occurred on Tuesday in Beverly, Mass. A motorcyclist, Thomas Misuraca, of Gloucester, was struck by Ann Walker, 65, of Beverly, as she was pulling out of her driveway. She did not see biker, because a trailer parked at the side of the road was obstructing her view.
Misuraca was also seriously injured in the crash and underwent a surgery on Wednesday. Police said he was conscious and alert after the crash, before he was airlifted to a hospital. He was in a “good” condition yesterday.
Both of these crashes were a direct result of driver inattentiveness, and the motorcyclists suffered for it. Drivers are urged to be more alert on the roads during bike season, since it is always the bikers who sustain the severest injuries in collisions with cars or trucks.
While motorists can also get injured in crashes, bikers are mor exposed to the impact of a collision. Their best hope is to wear helmets and make sure drivers can see and hear them on the road.
We sincerely wish both Mark Karli and Thomas Misuraca a speedy and complete recovery from their injuries.
