January 21, 2010 – Springfield – The victims in two recent car crashes in Springfield and Holyoke have been identified by local police.
According to reports in Masslive.com, police have identified the 21-year-old fatal victim of a Springfield car crash that took place on January 19th as Toni Bushey of Chicopee. Police believe speed was a major factor in the single-car crash that also sent James Garnes and Erin Fett to Baystate Medical Center.
Also identified by police was the fatal victim of a recent car accident on Route 5 as 42-year-old John Hughes also of Chicopee. Hughes was killed in a tragic single-vehicle car accident when he lost control of his Chevy Camaro and struck a utility pole, splitting the pole in two.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.
