February 3, 2010 – Norton, Mass. - A 37-year-old woman died after her car collided with a utility pole Sunday morning in Norton, Mass.
According to WickedLocal.com, Elizabeth Vargas of Attleboro, Mass. was on her way home from an overnight shift in Carver, Mass. when her vehicle struck a pole on West Main Street in Norton just after 7 a.m. She was transported to Sturdy Memorial Hospital, where she died shortly after arrival.
Authorities said that the pole was cut near the base, causing them to close street and repair the pole. The Norton car accident is still being investigated by Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.
