Woman Injured After Falling Off a Moving Car in Newton

A woman sustained personal injuries after being thrown off the roof of a moving vehicle on Monday morning in Newton, Mass. The driver of the vehicle was later arrested and charged with numerous traffic violations.

reports that several witnesses spotted a tan car driving on Grove Street with a woman on the roof of the vehicle. When the car’s driver made a left turn onto I-95, the women was thrown onto the street.

The injured pedestrian victim was offered assistance by passers-by, who noticed her lying in the middle of traffic. Shortly afterward, the driver of the tan vehicle, Maria Asenith Salmon, 51, of Dorchester, returned to the scene of the incident. She then took the victim to Newton-Wellesley Hospital for the treatment of minor injuries.

Maria Asenith Salmon of Dorchester was arrested at the hospital and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, assault with a dangerous weapon, driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance, and driving with suspended registration.

Police continue to investigate the incident and have not yet released the name of the victim involved in the pedestrian accident.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.
