February 19, 2010 – Saugus, Mass. – A woman is reported to be in stable condition after suffering neck injuries when her car skidded down an embankment and landed on its roof Tuesday afternoon.
According to ItemLive.com Maria Faria, 62, was trying to park her 2004 Honda Civic in her driveway at about 4:15 p.m. when it slid down to the street below. The car landed on its roof, trapping her inside.
Fortunately, firefighters on the scene were able to squeeze inside the passenger window and carry Faria out of the car. She was taken immediately to Massachusetts General with a neck injury. She was conscious and alert after the single-car accident. The cause is still unknown, though weather is believed to have played a role.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s 2008 Massachusetts Crash Statistics, there were 363 fatalities as a result of car accidents in Massachusetts.
