Our Proven Record
Severe Burn Injuries – $4.4 Million Settlement
Our client was seriously injured in an electrical explosion resulting in 3rd degree burns for which he was awarded a $4.4 million settlement.
What Happened
A property owner hired our client, a maintenance electrician, to perform some work on high-voltage electrical equipment. The damaged equipment was supposed to have been safely disconnected from the power supply by the property owner.
Prior to our client arriving at the property and performing the maintenance, the property owner had a duty to verify that the electrical equipment was indeed de-energized. The property owner neglected to do so, however. When our client began to work on the maintenance request, he was unaware that the electrical equipment was still live and an electrical explosion resulted. Our client suffered severe 3rd degree burns from the Massachusetts work accident.
Our client’s extensive burn injuries required him to undergo several reconstructive surgeries which resulted in medical bills in excess of 7 figures. He was no longer able to work because of the extent of his injuries, required medical treatment, and recovery. The $4,400,000 settlement our firm was able to obtain for our client granted him financial security as well as coverage for his mounting medical bills.
Proving Breach of Duty
Property owners are responsible for the safety of their patrons, employees, and any service workers they contract to perform maintenance on their property. However, proving negligence in a Massachusetts work accident case can be complicated.
While you may want to believe that a property owner will automatically be held liable for your injuries in the event of an accident, Massachusetts law requires you to prove that the property owner was more than 51% responsible for any harm caused to you while on their property.
