Drop Side Baby Cribs Recalled for Risk of Child Injury
Parents eager to bring home their new baby should be vigilant about making sure the new or used baby crib they are using will be safe. Oftentimes, baby cribs pose a serious risk of injury or death to infants, and parents need to be aware of recent baby crib recalls.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recently announced two recalls of baby cribs because they pose a danger to babies, especially for risk of:
- entrapment,
- suffocation, and
- strangulation.
List of Recalled Baby Cribs
The CPSC recall included about 2,900 cribs. To find out if your baby’s crib was included in the recall, look for:
- Bona vita "Hudson" Drop Side Cribs
- Babi Italia "Pinehurst" Drop Side Cribs
- made by LaJobi, Inc. in Cranbury, N.J.
- production dates from December 2006 through August 2007
To find out if their crib is included in the recall, parents can check the production date, product order (PO) number, item number, and color printed on a label attached to the footboard or headboard. The cribs were sold by USA Baby, Beautiful Beginnings, Buy Buy Baby and other specialty stores nationwide from January 2006 through May 2009 for about $450.
Some parents may need to use a previously owned crib, but they should make sure those cribs are safe and have not been recalled. A world-wide organization called USA Safe Kids has recommendations on how to choose a safe crib for your baby.
They suggest to:
- buy a crib that meets all current national safety standards
- corner posts should be 1/16 inch or shorter.
- distance between crib slats should be 2 3/8 inches or less to make sure the baby doesn’t get trapped
- mattress should fit securely in the crib and be free of all plastic wrappings
- remove all soft bedding, toys and pillows from the crib when your baby is sleeping so there is no danger of suffocation
- place your baby on the back to sleep
Suing Baby Crib Manufacturers
If your child’s injuries or death were the result of a defective crib, you can sue the manufacturer for personal injury or wrongful death on the behalf of your child.
