Common Injuries Sustained By Children in Amusement Park Accidents (Part B)

Bruises, scrapes, broken bones and limb amputations are only some of the child injuries that can result from amusement park rides gone wrong. A serious amusement park accident such as a head or brain injury can completely change your child’s life, as well as that of your family.

Slip and Fall Accident Injuries

Slip and fall accidents are some of the most common accidents that occur in amusement parks. These accidents can result from poorly maintained flooring, spills that are not cleaned in a timely manner, or flooring that was recently cleaned without a posted warning. Slip and fall accidents can result in child injuries ranging from sprained ankles to head injuries depending on how and where the child fell.

Child Injuries from Malfunctioning Rides or Operator Neglect

There is a reason why children must be a particular height and/or weight to ride certain rides. When operators allow children to go on an amusement park ride that was designed for a much larger person, a variety of injuries can easily result. Likewise, if the ride itself is damaged in some way, safety restraints may fail or children may become entangled or fall from the ride, causing serious or fatal child injuries ranging from broken bones to brain trauma or spinal cord injuries.

Brain Injuries

A child can also suffer brain injuries if he or she falls from an amusement park or carnival ride, or becomes entrapped underneath the ride. Children can also suffer brain injuries in the course of certain amusement park rides.

The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes has information on 13 people who have suffered brain injuries while riding a roller coaster. Some of those victims were children.

Fatal Child Injuries

Amusement park accidents involving children can also lead to death. Children can sustain fatal injuries at amusement parks, especially if they fall from a ride. 16-year-old Hayley Williams fell over 100 feet from a roller coaster at a UK amusement park. That fall resulted in her death. According to the Daily Mail, the operators of the ride had failed to check the ride’s restraint system.
