You can help injured children and their families at the Franciscan Hospital for Children in Boston by making a donation this holiday season. As one of the nation’s largest pediatric rehabilitation hospitals, Franciscan offers a combination of services for children that is hard to find anywhere else. "Their vision is to create a pediatric center for children with special needs that is a nationally and internationally recognized model, leader, and advocate of care, which offers the best possible outcome for children with special needs," according to their website.
The mission of the Franciscan Hospital for Children is to provide compassionate care and education to children with special health care needs and to help them reach their full potential. Since 1949, Franciscan Hospital for Children has pioneered clinical, therapeutic and educational programs for children with a variety of disabilities. Through the years it has expanded the programs and services for children with special health care needs, as well as for children from the local community. Franciscan’s care includes inpatient, residential, educational, surgical, outpatient and home care programs.
The Franciscan Hospital for Children offers many services for children in the Boston area. The emotional needs of children and adolescents are treated in the Behavioral Health Care Unit. This unit specializes in treating children with developmental disabilities, traumatic brain injuries, and medical conditions that result in emotional or behavioral problems. With the help of interdisciplinary staff and working with families, teachers, and other caregivers, they help children with behavioral, emotional, and even learning disabilities.
Educational services are also provided to children with medical, behavioral and developmental challenges. The staff helps children needing assistance with physical and motor skills, perceptual skills, language and communication skills, cognitive and learning abilities and attention and interaction deficits.
The Franciscan Hospital for Children also offers inpatient and outpatient programs for children who have problems caused by a traumatic injury, illness, or malignancy. While focusing on the medical, therapeutic, and emotional status of the children, the staff also pays attention to how the children are doing with social development, emotional status, and activities that can be a part of the child’s rehabilitation plan.
And finally, the hospital houses a Research Center for Children with Special Health Care Needs to develop models of care for children with the latest information in pediatric rehabilitation. With consultation from the Health and Disability Research Institute at Boston University, the Research Center works to investigate the effectiveness of new programs and then disseminates the results to health care professionals and to families who need this information.
Please join Tom Kiley and donate now to help these children and their families.
