Attorney Advice on Fireworks Injuries and Keeping Your Kids Safe (Part A)
The beauty of some firework displays cannot be surpassed. They are gorgeous, exciting, illuminating, and a sight to behold. That being said, even though legal fireworks are classified as “consumer fireworks” and tested by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, there are still some safety concerns with consumer use of fireworks.
If you or your loved one has been injured in a firework accident in Boston or Andover you should contact a personal injury attorney immediately to learn about your rights and determine liability. Massachusetts has a statute of limitations that may prohibit you from filing a lawsuit if too much time has passed. Contact Kiley Law Group for guidance on your Boston child injury case.
Fireworks Safety
First and foremost, if you are handling and using fireworks, make sure they are legal.
Fireworksafety.com says that legal fireworks will:
- Be packaged in bright colors
- Have safety information on the packaging
- Be regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission
- Include the country of origin on the packaging (usually China)
Illegal fireworks will:
- Be unpackaged
- Not have safety information
- Be wrapped with brown paper
- Have missing the place of manufacture
- Go by names such as M80, Quarter Stick, or Cherry Bomb
One of the safest ways to use fireworks is not to handle them yourself; rather attend an event put on by professionals. The hosted event will save you time, money, and the effort required to make a nice display. These professional shows aren’t without safety concerns, but you do limit some of the problems by not actually handling the fireworks.
If you are going to conduct your own fireworks show, ensure that it is legal to do so in your area. Although fireworks may be legal in your state, many cities and counties have enacted ordinances that prohibit the use of fireworks.
