Ford Expands Pickup Truck Airbag Recall
According to the Los Angeles Times, Ford Motor Company is increasing the number of recalled 2004, 2005 and 2006 F-150 pickup trucks to about 1.2 million trucks due to the potential for airbags in the front seat to deploy, even if the truck is not involved in a crash. Earlier this year, Ford had initially issued a recall of 144,000 pickups in connection with the airbag deployment concerns.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported that there have been nearly 300 instances of airbags deploying and injuring occupants of the truck when there was no collision involved. Reported injuries ranged from permanent vision loss to chipped teeth, as well as back and neck injuries.
The F-Series pickup truck is ranked as the biggest-selling truck in the U.S. and is the top pick among both cars and trucks of any type.
