Harley Davidson Recall Includes More Than 111,000 Motorcycles
Motorcycle manufacturer Harley Davidson has recently announced a recall of 111,600 motorcycles due to a defective fuel tank that may result in a leak after a crash. The danger is that such a fuel leak could cause a fire in the presence of an ignition spark. The Harley Davidson recall involves 21 models in the touring, custom, and trike varieties that were manufactured between 2009 and 2010.
Owners of a recalled Harley Davidson have been asked to bring their bike to a local Harley Davidson dealership where a technician will install a left and right hand brace (which is provided in the recall kit) between the front mounts and the frame.
By having the stronger braces fitted to the fuel tank mount, this will hopefully minimize the possibility of the defect. The repairs to recalled Harleys will be done free of charge. Fortunately, this precaution is based on a worst case scenario of a front-end collision, and should not be a danger that is prompted by everyday use.
To check whether your Harley Davidson motorcycle is affected by the Harley recall, you can call your local Harley Davidson dealership, or go to the NHTSA website for more information.
